Wellbeing through mindfullness

Mindfulness Course Information

Hello and thank you for your interest.

What is the course?

The course is a secular Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course which will be run at the London Buddhist Vihara in
Turnham Green. The course also contains some Cognitive Therapy elements from the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy course.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is sometimes described as intentional, non-judgemental present moment awareness in a context of kindness and
compassion. The practice of mindfulness has many benefits typically including reduced stress, increased wellbeing and better sleep. There is now also much good scientific research behind this. None of these benefits are goals to strive for during the course as they arise naturally through mindfulness practice. The aim of the course is to bring a curious and open mind, to gently, non-judgmentally and compassionately explore the experience of living, to let go of any goals and cultivate mindfulness allowing any insights to unfold naturally.

What will the course involve?

The course will explore the richness of the present moment, work with life challenges and tune into a sense of "wholeness as we are". It is not a course that tells you the answer but rather facilitates you to greater clarity of your situation, allowing you to respond more skillfully instead of reacting habitually in "autopilot". Awareness is developed through guided meditations and the course uses poetry and a variety of engaging activities to explore themes. Meditations are based on mindfulness of thoughts, feelings and body sensations. All practices are invitational.

When is it?

Please email me for dates and times. It will run for 8 weeks, once a week for 2 and a half hours and offer an "all day meditation" after week 6 on the Saturday.

Who is it for?

The course is for anyone who wishes to explore their life and connect to their humanity. The course is very rich and has its own demands such as home practice so it is usually better suited to those who have stress or difficulties in their life but are not suffering from a recent major life event. Those who cannot commit to at least 6 of the 8 sessions are advised to participate another time as each session builds on earlier ones.

How much is it?

The course is donation based, you can give whatever you decide. How we value things is also an opportunity to bring our awareness to!

Are there any hidden costs?

No, handouts and home practice guided meditations will be provided.

Who is the Instructor?

My name is Sud Ubayasiri, I am an experienced Mindfulness instructor and hold a distinction at Masters level in teaching mindfulness (MSc) from Bangor University's Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice where I am also on the core training team. I am a qualified medical Doctor (BMBS), although I do not currently practice, and I also hold a masters degree in Engineering Science. My intention is to facilitate people's wellbeing.

What should I do if I am interested in the course

Please contact me at the email address below and I will organise an important and useful orientation session before the course starts to ensure you understand what it involves, ask questions, and also to see if it is the right time for you to do this course.

Wishing you well,
